At Wise Orthodontics, we want to make getting a beautiful smile as convenient as possible. With our Virtual Orthodontic Consultation (VOC), you can upload pictures of you or your child's mouth and teeth along with a note describing your concerns or questions for our doctors without ever leaving the comfort of your home!
Of course, your final treatment plan will only be created after sufficient diagnostic records have been made and an in-person clinical evaluation is completed by our friendly doctors. The VOC is not a comprehensive oral exam but is used purely as a screening tool for our doctors and staff to provide you with useful information about you or your child's basic orthodontic issues. The VOC is an extension or enhancement of the new patient phone call as it provides images of you or your child's situation. Decisions about actual diagnosis or treatment will only be accomplished after a comprehensive in-person exam has been rendered in our office.
Getting started with your VOC
Basic Information:
- Please provide us with your home phone number/mobile number, e-mail address and home address. Also, let us know your preferred method of contact (via phone, e-mail or text).
- Please provide us with the patient's name, responsible party's name, patient's birthday, primary concern, approximate number of primary (baby) teeth lost by patient, any special health history issues, oral habits and speech issues.
- Also, if possible, please have your general dentist send us a copy of their most recent panoramic X-ray.
How to take photos of your or your child's teeth
- Take the pictures in a well lit room or even outdoors. Have lots of lights on and have a flash light ready. It will work best if two people help take the photos (one to take the pictures and the other to hold the flashlight).
- Have the subject lean back in a chair, and then use their own fingers as cheek retractors. See our photo library for a good example of what photos should look like.

Photos
- You'll need a digital camera or high-resolution camera phone, a willing subject, and a small flashlight. For solo photos, a cosmetic mirror with ring light and a wall mirror are ideal.
- Take five inside the mouth photos (upper chewing surface, lower chewing surface, left and right side shots, frontal shot).
- Optional photos include full face frontal smile and no smile, profile view no smile, and full frontal standing. Having the subject stand in a doorway to give us a size perspective is also helpful.
- When you're done, email us the images, as well as the basic information included above, to info@wiseorthodontics.com. We'll contact you by your preferred method within five working days to discuss your photos and make any recommendations for you at that time. You'll soon be on your way to getting the great smile you've always wanted.
